3 Exercises to Delight in God's Presence

Delighting in God's presence begins with treasuring His Word in your heart. But how do we do that? Psalm 119 shows us a few practical ways. Follow along with these simple three exercises and experience the delight of feasting on God's Word and hiding it in your heart.

"With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth" (Psalm 119:13).

As you learn from God's Word, become a Bible teacher to everyone you know—including yourself. Recite Scripture aloud as you face challenges throughout the day. Tell others what God is teaching you. The more you verbalize God's Word, the more your mind will be renewed to its Truth.


"I meditate on your precepts . . ." (Psalm 119:15a).

In the rush to meet our Bible reading goals, we often neglect to savor Scripture. Have you ever experienced the delight of just meditating on God's Word? Choose a short passage of Scripture (just 1-3 verses) and set aside time today to immerse yourself in it. Think through the context of the passage. Linger on every word. As God's Word shapes your heart and your mind, rejoicing will naturally follow.


". . . and [I] consider your ways" (Psalm 119:15b).

As you read God's Word, ask Him: "How have You demonstrated this particular Truth in my life?" and "How can I live out this Truth today?" As the Holy Spirit calls things to mind, praise God for His faithfulness in your life—and ask for His help to live out His Word today.


Renewing your mind (see Romans 12:1-2) is not only a spiritual principle—it's also a neurological process. The more you practice something, the stronger your brain's neuropathways become. The same process holds true in our spiritual lives: The more you reflect on God's Word, the more your thoughts and actions will conform to its Truth.

Prayer: "Lord, let Your Word saturate my every thought."
