In 1741, the weeping of repentant souls at a church in Enfield, New England, became so loud that Jonathan Edwards had to stop preaching. In 1800, crowds of up to 25,000 people across England and America flocked to hear a message from God's Word. In 1857, a businessman in New York City began a prayer meeting that ignited a revival of 1 million people coming to Christ.
Throughout history, when God pours out His Spirit, He leaves people and communities and nations forever changed. And a desire for another powerful move of God is what turned Dr. Alan Kerbey's first meeting with Dr. Michael Youssef into an exciting new partnership in the Gospel.
What might God accomplish through Dr. Youssef as he faithfully proclaims the Gospel message to millions of souls in darkness? And what might He accomplish through thousands of Leading The Way partners who are seeking nothing else but Him?
Let our prayer be, "Renew it in our day!"
"My heart, prayer and longing is that God will use Dr. Youssef and Leading The Way to play just a small part in bringing a new spiritual reformation to our nation."
"When I became a Christian 50 years ago, God placed on my heart very clearly the need to see a revitalization and a renewal in the church in the UK, and a spiritual awakening in the nation," says Kerbey, Leading The Way's new UK Director.
"I began devouring the history books, looking back at times when God had moved in power through nations and communities. . . . and I said, 'Lord, we need to see that again in our nation. We need to see a move of God's Spirit in that way,'" Kerbey says. "[Through an extraordinary set of circumstances, last year] I met Dr. Youssef and learned of his love for the UK. It was the UK that gave us the English Reformation. It was the UK that gave us the Wesleyan revival. We desperately need a fresh spiritual awakening.
"As I consider my new role with this extraordinary ministry, my heart, prayer and longing is that God will use Dr. Youssef and Leading The Way to play just a small part in bringing a new spiritual reformation to our nation."
How can we usher in a revival in our day? Revival is not something that can be manufactured; it comes by God's Holy Spirit. But the means He uses are the uncompromised preaching of God's Word and the faithful prayers of His people who "humble themselves and pray and seek [His] face" (2 Chronicles 7:14).
