NEW! FOR YOUR GIFT OF ANY AMOUNT

A new year holds such promise but also much uncertainty. It could be a year of triumphs or a year of deep trials. But there is a way to find refuge and strength no matter what comes—a divine protection that is only available through Jesus Christ.

The secret of God's protection is the secret of His presence, and the secret of God's presence is in the secret of keeping His Word. If we look to Psalm 119:9-16, we'll see that the way to keep our eyes on Jesus, to dwell in the presence of the Most High, is by letting the Word of God find a home in our hearts and minds.

There is a way to find refuge and strength no matter what comes.

When God's Word dwells richly in your heart, it will:

  • Guard you against the enemy of your soul.
  • Strengthen you in character and conduct.
  • Sustain you through the pressures of life.
  • Heal your spirit and bind your broken heart.

THE INDESCRIBABLE POWER OF GOD'S WORD

The Bible says that God's Word is "alive and active. . . . [I]t penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow" (Hebrews 4:12). We know that Scripture is powerful—but what exactly does it accomplish in us as we dwell on its Truth? Psalm 119 says this about God's Word:

  • It cleanses us (see Psalm 119:9). Through obedience to God's Word, you can stay on the path of purity.
  • It covers us (see v. 10). As you delight in God's Word, it will keep you from straying from God's commands.
  • It corrects us (see v. 11). When you hide God's Word in your heart, it will keep you from sin.

HOW TO APPLY THE POWER OF GOD'S WORD IN YOUR LIFE

Psalm 119:13-16 gives us three exercises to help us apply the Word of God to every area of our lives—to help God's Word make a home in our hearts:

  1. Speak the Word of God (see v. 13). Let it be on your mind and on your tongue throughout the day.
  2. Savor the Word of God (see v. 14-15). Reflect on God's promises. Cherish the message of the Gospel, the presence of God, and the promise of His coming Kingdom.
  3. Substantiate the Word of God (see v. 16). Make decisions that demonstrate your trust in God's Word. Applying God's Word to everyday situations honors and pleases Him.

Take refuge in the shadow of the Almighty today and every day by speaking, savoring, and substantiating the Word of God. As you allow God's Word to dwell richly in your heart, you'll enjoy the unparalleled protection of the Lord as He carries His good work in you to completion (see Philippians 1:6).
