QUESTION:

"The Christian life sounds demanding. Why should I become a follower of Christ?"

The core of the Christian faith is that you can exchange your sin for His perfection.

ANSWER:

In Mark 8:36, Jesus asks a crucial question: "What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?"

Jesus asked this question because He knows that our souls are eternal; there will never be a time when you will not be. In other words, a million years from now, you will be living either in heaven with Jesus or in torment with Satan. The question is Where are you going to spend eternity?

"Well, why can't God just accept my best effort?" you might wonder. Here is the problem: God is perfect, and only perfect people can approach a perfect God. Consider: Astronauts in space must have a space suit, or they are toast. In the same way, without the space suit that only Jesus Christ can give you, you are toast. He became man and lived perfectly so that everyone who accepts Him receives that space suit that qualifies him or her for heaven.

This is Christianity in a nutshell. All that other religious stuff is just stuff. The core of the Christian faith is that you can exchange your sin for His perfection; your guilt for His peace; your restlessness for His contentment; your fear for His faith; your doubt for His assurance; your destination from hell to heaven. And that's why, once you choose to follow Jesus, you will never regret it.
