QUESTION:

The secret to becoming fishers of men is following Jesus.
ANSWER:
It’s hard to get out of our comfort zones, but when we give up the noblest, purest, truest work of the church—saving souls, being fishers of men—we lose sight of who we are as disciples of Christ.
Most Christians are hesitant to talk to their friends and neighbors about Jesus because they are thinking more about how people will react to them rather than trusting God to take care of that reaction. Jesus promised, "[W]hoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it" (Matthew 16:25). Our Lord is saying that when we lose ourselves in the task He has called us to—when we lay ourselves down as Jesus did for us—we will be used to win others to His Kingdom.
The secret to becoming fishers of men is following Jesus. That is the secret not only to having success but also to having confidence in witnessing for Christ and to overcoming fear, anxiety, concern for your reputation, and everything else that threatens to hinder you from proclaiming the Gospel.
Wherever Christ has placed you—whatever your profession or social status—tell others about Jesus. You don’t need a ten-year degree. All you need is to abandon yourself completely to Jesus, and He’ll take care of the rest. When you do, He’ll open doors and do great things through you, and you’ll find that what you thought was impossible is possible in Him.
