QUESTION:
"How do I love God with all of my heart?"
For true intimacy with Jesus to take place, you must develop your listening skills.
ANSWER:
First of all, you need to know that there are no shortcuts. You cannot love anyone, let alone God, with all of your heart without spending adequate time in their presence. You cannot love someone if you only have secondhand information about them. That’s impossible.
Just praying to God won’t cut it either. Talking to someone all day long doesn’t enable you to know them. Incessantly emailing or sending texts to someone does not build intimacy. Why? Because intimacy cannot develop when you are the only one doing the talking.
For true intimacy with Jesus to take place, you must develop your listening skills. To love God with all of your heart, you must hold the Word of God open in front of you and give God time to talk back to you. You must set aside time for this—a time in which you are solely focused on listening to Him. And you cannot listen well if you are only thinking about what you want to say next.
My friend, there is no going around this. You must set aside time with God to be quiet and listen—to study and submit to His Word—that you might truly taste and see His goodness and love for you.
