The Strength of the Holy Spirit
  • Scripture:
God honors those with broken spirits who are utterly dependent on Him.

In our quest to see true spiritual growth in our lives, it is important to remember this Truth: We put ourselves in a position to receive God’s power through His Holy Spirit when we become realistic about our limitations and inadequacies.

God honors those with broken spirits who are utterly dependent on Him. God manifests His power in those who lay their weaknesses at His feet.

In my own life, I often find myself crying, “Lord, help me. Lord, strengthen me. Lord, enable me. Lord, give me Your power!” What am I really asking for? I want the power to live in a way that is 100 percent pleasing to God. I want God’s power working in my life to defeat the spiritual enemy who continually seeks to bring about loss, destruction, and an end to blessing in my life—that thief who comes only to steal, kill, and destroy.

In seeking God’s power to bring about these works, I am seeking the same things that all who deeply desire to follow the Lord Jesus seek. In my own strength I will surely be defeated. But in the strength of the Holy Spirit, armed with the whole armor of God—the belt of Truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet that are sure because of the Gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit—I will be able to stand firm (see Ephesians 6:14-17).

The Christian life was never designed to be lived through human effort alone. God does not call us to overcome temptation, endure trials, or pursue holiness by relying on our own ability. He calls us to surrender fully to Him and allow His Spirit to work through us. When we recognize our weakness, we make room for His strength to be displayed. As Paul declared, “For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10). Our dependence on God is not a sign of failure—it is the pathway to experiencing His transforming power.

Prayer: God, I lay my weaknesses at Your feet and confess that I need the power of Your Spirit working in my life to overcome the challenges of this day. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
